Molecular Genetics Unit Test - Wednesday June 15th

Topics include: DNA structure, how DNA replicates, protein synthesis, operons, mutations, chromosome structure, biotechnology tools and transformation (cloning).
I recommend "doing" something with your study materials. For example, do the review provided on the wiki, make study notes, predict questions, read aloud your notes, have someone quiz you, watch the Khan academy videos, teach a topic to a friend in the class, study in a group, walk around while studying....consider your own personal learning style!

HINTS!!!!!
-know the components of a nucleotide and how nucleotides are arranged in the overall DNA structure
-know the relevant enzymes and proteins involved in replicating DNA
-understand transcription, post-transcription modifications, and translation
-be able to use the genetic code
-understand the lac and trp operons
-know the types of mutations
-understand how DNA is arranged in chromosomes
-know the roles of restriction endonucleases, methylases, ligase, and gel electrophoresis in recombinant DNA technology
-understand the steps involved in transformation (cloning)

Advice for when studying for the exam:

-begin studying at least a week in advance - do some studying each day - review what you've already studied
-study the tests from the course
-make study notes
-predict questions
-study with a friend or in a small group from class
-study diagrams from your notes and tests
-study what you concluded from the 3D molecules lab, the osmosis lab, the enzyme lab, and the caffeine lab
-get a good night's sleep the night before (at least 7 hours!)
-eat a balanced breakfast with a mix of proteins and complex carbs (like an egg and a bowl of oatmeal, or whole wheat toast and some yogurt)
-relax, you've worked hard this semester and it will all be OK!
